Oregon Christian Women's Retreat Celebrates 25 Years
By Jayne Kack

Skamania Lodge, in the Columbia River Gorge, welcomed 240 women to the 25th Annual Oregon Christian Women's Retreat October 14–16.

“Shine!” was the weekend's spiritual theme and challenged women to become transformed by the power of God to such a degree that their lives magnify the glory of God living within them. Dr. Janice Johnson Browne, main speaker for the weekend, spoke on how women can unburden themselves so they can shine more brightly. She reminded women of God's calling in their lives and of His great love for each one.

Dr. Lucille Ball, Elder Stan Beerman, Cheri Corder, Melissa Howell, and Tami Millagan offered a total of 10 topics at the break-out sessions. Topics ranged from leadership in church ministry to Christian living and boundaries and communication.

Teens were invited to attend with their moms or mentors and were offered their own breakout sessions, facilitated by Melissa Howell. Additionally, the teens were pampered with extra treats and girly activities and were encouraged to fully realize how precious they are to God and their church. Many teens participated in sharing their testimony during one of the main sessions.

In a simple but delightful acknowledgement of the 25- year milestone, four giant sheet cakes were served, each featuring the weekend’s logo. Two women held up each cake spelling out “Oregon Christian Women’s Retreat”. One of the women, Connie Stalnecker, had attended an amazing twenty-four of the twenty-five retreats!

During those twenty-five years, the group has met in a wide variety of settings, most recently in Sunriver, Oregon and Florence, Oregon.

Over half the women attending the retreat responded to a special altar call on Saturday night. Many renewed their walk with God in a deeper, more meaningful way. As a result, several women, including teens, are currently studying for baptism!

Each woman left the retreat challenged to walk with God faithfully, allowing His light to brighten their countenance, and transform their lives to become a reflection of His love to everyone around.
