“With the Holy Spirit hovering between us and those we are called to serve, there are NO degrees of separation. The Spirit is a magnet, drawing us together as God’s kids.”

Last weekend the North Pacific Union Conference celebrated our children and their leaders at a weekend training event. Everything from the table decorations, to the speakers, workshops, and games focused on how to lead children into a lifelong love relationship with Jesus.

Shirley Allen, Oregon Conference children’s ministry director, spent several months scrounging construction equipment from thrift stores. Once she had a full complement of bulldozers, cranes, dump trucks, and Lego-people, she asked fellow Oregon Conference office employee, Jane Nicola, if she could find flowers for the dump trucks. How’s that for a kid’s ministry assignment!

The result was more fun than a ton of Legos.

Up front on stage, hung a giant banner, and a full-human-size “LEGO Dude” to remind everyone that we are in God’s Construction Zone – and that we’re Building Leaders for Today’s Kids.

The big LEGO Construction Dude, by the way, is thanks to Beaverton Church member, Heidi McGill, who carefully created it by hand!

Ask the kids Leaders from your church what the weekend was like, and they’ll tell stories of painting with pudding, learning to love bullies, crying for joy with Jose Rojas. And they may even show you their bright yellow hard hat – the one that says, “God’s Construction Crew.”

Back to Pastor Rojas. He was open, candid, pointed, and totally uplifting. Jesus was core to each of his presentations, and each of us came away more deeply in love with our Savior. Videos of his presentations will available on the Oregon Conference website and can currently be found on YouTube. Please, dedicate 30 minutes and listen to Jose’s Sabbath morning worship. You will be blessed, and maybe even “constructed” into someone a bit more like Jesus.

How can you, and the rest of your congregation, receive benefit from this weekend’s activities? Slip away from your Sabbath School class and join the Primary or Juniors for their Sabbath morning celebration. You’ll experience a new depth of kindness and find kids actively enjoying projects that their leaders learned at God’s Construction Zone.
