Follow the Star . . . Getting Ready for Another Year
Follow the Star will celebrate its 10th season the first two weekends of December on the grounds of the Gladstone Park Conference Center. In the past nine years attendance has continued to increase until last December when 6,000 people followed the star as the Magi searched for the Christ Child. More than 100 actors in costume bring the biblical story of Jesus birth to life in seven outdoor scenes. “Our purpose is to help people see Jesus’ birth as a real historical event and to invite our communities to a non-threatening spiritual event on the Gladstone Park campus,” says Paul Johnson, Chairman of the Steering Committee. This goal was realized in one child’s mind as between scenes he was heard to exclaim, “There’s a story just like this in my Bible!”
This year’s dates are Dec. 2,3,4, 9,10 and 11. Admission is free and performances begin on Fridays at 6:00p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays at 5:00p.m. Gates remain open until 8:30p.m. or until the evening’s capacity is reached. There are no reserved tickets, but tickets are available at the Gladstone grounds beginning 30 minutes before each opening performance. Attendees are urged to come early, as many evenings all tickets are given out early in the evening. Tickets are given in groups of 25 and a community musical program is provided in the Holden Center for those who are waiting their turn. A group leaves for the 45 minute outdoor tour every 8-10 minutes. More information can be found at www.followthestar.us.
