Men After God's Own Heart
By Gary McLain

November 11 & 12, eighty men gathered at the Holden Convention Center in Gladstone Ore. for the annual Men’s Conference. Chuck Burkeen, Member Ministries Director at the Oregon Conference, was the main speaker for the general sessions. His topic for Friday night was "Why it’s Normal For Men to be Crazy". If you’re a man after God’s own heart, you may be considered crazy by others standards.

Five guys presented breakout sessions throughout the day. "The Many Faces of Addiction", "Your Spiritual Legacy", "How to Manage Anger" and "Anxiety, Wired For Jesus", and "CHIP For Men".

During the last general session of the day, just before going to supper, the men requested needs for prayer. The group would gather around each guy and pray for those needs. One of the men said his son had not had any contact with him for seven years. This man hadn't even been able to see his grandkids. The group prayed that the family could be reunited. The men then went to supper and about thirty minutes after the prayer for his family, while they were eating, this gentlemen got a text from his wife saying that the granddaughter of their son had called and they were going to meet up with her the next day!

Statistics show that men want personal support and accountability in their Christian walk in their own churches. Men’s Conference is a safe place for guys to meet, learn, and discuss struggles along the journey here on earth as they strive to be like Jesus.
